Moscord is looking to accelerate its growth in Europe with the recruitment of Ross Tovey, formerly of Seven Seas, in the new role of Regional Sales Manager. Tovey has been briefed to ‘super charge’ the fast growing e-marketplace for maritime supplies in key regional markets, expanding its user base and helping build relationships with the industry’s leading supplier brands.

Direct benefits

Moscord launched in 2016 to provide a direct digital trading platform for the maritime industry, allowing procurement professionals to buy ship supply products directly from suppliers. The service provides complete pricing transparency, with users browsing a vast portfolio of over 200,000 quality products (ranging from consumables, to provisions, engine parts, safety equipment, electronics, tools and uniforms) at set contracted prices. They can then assess and order the exact type and quality of product required for last mile delivery to almost any harbour worldwide.

For their part, suppliers and manufacturers get direct connections with customers and a powerful, efficient and cost-effective sales channel. Brands already signed up with Moscord include Schneider, RS Components, Würth, and Meson, amongst others.

Transformational impact

“Moscord is a uniquely powerful proposition for shipping,” comments Tovey, who will service the European market from a dedicated base in Rotterdam. “It helps suppliers build close relationships with the market, while delivering significant cost savings – typically around 20% against traditional supply channels – for buyers. What’s more, overall procurement costs, and the duration of the procurement cycle, are essentially halved, driving real gains in business efficiency.

“We’ve seen e-marketplaces transform other industries and consumer behaviour in general, and that’s exactly what Moscord will achieve within the world of ship supply. From a personal perspective that was too much of a golden opportunity for me to pass up on. This is a genuine game changer for maritime, full stop, and it is incredibly exciting to be involved.”

Proven expertise

Tovey boasts 15 years of sales experience within the ship supply segment, with eight at Seven Seas BV where he held the joint role of regional sales and commercial manager. Freddy Ingemann, the founder and CEO of Moscord, believes his recruitment is a key building block for Moscord in Europe.

“Ross has spent many years forging excellent relationships with leading suppliers and shipowners in these important regional markets,” he comments. “His proven expertise and broad contact base will help us connect with both suppliers and buyers, super-charging our development and helping Moscord deliver its powerful benefits to an ever wider audience.

“We have targeted ambitious growth over the course of the next five years,” Ingemann concludes. “We have the platform in place to revolutionise the world of maritime procurement and now have the team to help it fulfil that huge potential. Ross is a key part of that and we’re very pleased to welcome him on board.”

Moscord, which also has offices in Singapore, Copenhagen and Manila, will have a stand (55A) at the upcoming IMPA London 2019 exhibition at QE II Centre in Westminster, London, 10-11 September. Ingemann and his colleagues will be in attendance to explain further details of the company’s proposition, ambitions and stakeholder benefits.
